How to Copy Data from a Container Project (Property/Job Site) to a Contained Project

✅ Step 1: Finalize Container Template

To update an existing container template (e.g. Job Site or Property) , ensure that you:

  • Add any new sections and fields that align with your current workflow.
  • Update template settings such as:
    • Type Name
    • Display lines
    • Status options
    • Default PDF report

Making these updates ensures your template remains relevant and functional for your specific process needs.

🆕 Step 2: Clone the Container template (If Needed)

If you haven’t already created a template for your contained template, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Templates in your dashboard.
  2. Clone the existing container template (e.g, Job Site or Property)
  3. Update the Type and Template settings.
  4. Add more sections and fields needed for your workflow.
  5. Save the template once you’re done.

✏️ Step 3: Revise Your Templates to Match Field Keys (If Needed)

  1. Open each template (both the container and contained project templates).
  2. Locate the fields you want to sync between projects.
  3. Ensure the field keys match for corresponding fields across both templates.
  4. Save your changes.

✅ Step 4: Use Matching Field Keys in Both Templates

To successfully copy data between projects, the field keys must match in both templates.

Example:

  • In the Job Site template, a field might be called "Street Address" with a field key of "address". See example screen show below. The field type = Text Field.
  • In the Site Survey template, the corresponding field (e.g., "Site Address") should also use the field key "address". Make sure the field type also matches.

🛠️ Tip: The field label can vary (e.g., "Street Address" vs. "Site Address"), but the field key must be identical for the data to transfer properly. We do recommend using the same field name to avoid any confusion.

🚀 Step 5: Publish the New or Revised Templates

Once you confirm everything is working as expected in your test:

  1. Return to each template.
  2. Click Publish to make the updated version active.
  3. Test to make sure the data from the container project copies down to the contained project.
